The best for last – with this idea in mind Mercedes made a special version for the super sports car SLR. After 5 years the career of this sports car, which was declared as the “silver arrow of the 21st century” by Juergen Hubbert, came to an end. “We did not want to do a final edition for the end” said Detlef Barthelmes, who is responsible for the SLR and Maybach sale, “we wanted to have a worth while ending”. This is how the idea of the special edition Stirling Moss was born a radical Roadster with affiliations to the victorious silver arrow of the 1955 Millie Miglia.
Like in 1955 everything was left away that was not really neccessary: Who needs a front window or roof when you are aiming at pole lap times? Worse case you were protective glasses while raining and during the parking procedure the interior was covered by two carbon fibre plates. The designers emphasized neat little details that adhered to the old 300 SLR of Stirling Moss. The Roadster has huge gills on the sides, the engine hood has a well recognizable air intake and behind the passengers are humps that act as a roll cage.
